On Thursday my wife and I met with Rory Kaye a messianic jewish pastor living in Göteborg. My wife has known him already for 7 years or so and we’ve learned a lot from him from healing, loving people, being a disciple etc. He took me to a big shopping mall where I could practise street preaching by telling a short version of my testimony! It was an amazing experience 🙂
He also talked with us about the 3 things that Jesus requires from us if we want to be his disciples: 1) deny ourselves 2) take up our cross daily 3) follow Jesus.
“Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.” Luke 9:23-24
In Luke 14 Jesus also says, that we have to count the cost of being a disciple before we start following him. It’s important that when we preach the gospel to people, we have to tell them openly, what is the cost of being a disciple. “(Jesus:) Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?” Luke 14:28. We have to sit down with people and tell them what following Jesus means, so that they can make an honest estimation. Jesus never promised us an easy life with economical success. He promised us persecution. He promised us that we’ll bear fruit if we don’t compromise.
